Dreamforce is almost here and our spirits are high. The Salesforce event of the year is a great place to network, make new connections and get inspired. For my self it will be the fist time ever to attend the show and I couldn't be more exited! I have been asking a lot of tips and advice from my colleagues and other people in my network who have all attended the event before about how to make the most of the event. So before I pack my bags and get ready to depart, I wanted to share these tips with you to help you prepare and get the most out of Dreamforce, too.
1. Plan ahead and have a schedule
There are going to be a lot of things to do. Perhaps the most beneficial tip we can give you is to create a program for yourself. Familiarize yourself with what workshops will be taking place, what companies will be at the event and most importantly ask yourself - what do you want to get out of teh event? The key here is preparation. I have created a list of the company stands I definitely want to visit and booked a few meetings already in advance with potential partners and clients. And of course I have marked down the keynote of Michelle Obama in my calendar - I can't wait!
2. Pack Lightly
Don’t overpack! You will be on the move all the time, so stay light and mobile. If you’re going to bring a backpack then use it to store all the gifts that you’re going to get at the event such as t-shirts and business cards. You don’t need to bring a laptop. Bring your phone, a charger and a power bank if you have one. Remember to bring comfortable shoes, there will be a lot of walking and standing.
3. Write Notes On Your Business Cards
You are going to go through a lot of business cards so make sure you have enough of them with you. Moreover, you will receive a number of business cards and it may be difficult to remember everyone who you meet. Here’s a helpful tip - write down a few characteristics of the people you meet on their business cards in order to make it easier for you to remember them at a later point in time.
4. Remember to Take Notes
You are going to be surrounded by new information. Even if you have been to going to Dreamforce since its very beginning, there is always something you can learn and take away from it. Paper and pens will be available at the event so you won’t have to worry about bringing a notebook or any extra looseleaf.
5. Don’t Get Shy - Enjoy!
You’re going to meet a lot of new people. There are going to be lots of opportunities to network and meet new prospects. Don’t over promote your business and make sure you have a quick and effective elevator pitch at your disposal. This is your chance to shine so there is no time to get nervous or shy! You are going to see and hear a lot of new things at Dreamforce. At the end of it all, you will have met a ton of new faces and companies and it is perfectly okay if things start to feel a bit of overwhelming. Just remember to keep an open mind, ask questions and have fun!
6. Should I Bring a Water Bottle and/or Snacks?
A practical question, but hey at least I'm always thinking of food and where to get it :) And the answer is: You don’t need to bring a water bottle. There will be water available at the event. If you have a full pass then you will be provided with meals and if you don’t then you’re going to have to find food outside the event. You can bring snacks if you want to, just make sure that they won’t weigh you down.
7. If possible, live near the event
This tip might come a bit late, as most of you probably have booked your Hotels or AirBnB already, but if possible stay near the main area. I've heard traffic is disastrous and as there is program from early morning to late night, it is nice if your hotel is at a walking distance so you can stop by when you feel like it.
